Fear of Flying Support That Fits

Your Journey

How I Work With You

1. Initial Conversation

Our first conversation is completely informal, without obligation, and a relaxed chat between friends.

You can tell me what is troubling you, what you would like help with, and what you hope to achieve.

Usually, this initial conversation lasts around 20 to 30 minutes. It gives us both an opportunity to decide whether I am the right person to help you.

2. Discovery

We start with what you want to change and explore the many fascinating and diverse aspects of your life that have led, or potentially led, to the way you feel today.

We will look at your experiences, the things that trigger your feelings, their impact on your life and anything else that may help us understand what is happening.

Most importantly, we will explore what you would like life to be like when this work is complete.

The session is normally about an hour, but that is a guide rather than a limit.

A note about time

We take as long as it takes to do the job properly

The times given for the individual stages are therefore approximate guides, not rigid appointments that have to end at a particular moment.

I allow sufficient time to find what I need, to do the work properly and, importantly, to make sure that you are not left hanging at the end of a session.

3. Preparatory Therapy and Coaching

THIS IS NOT HYPNOSIS.

These sessions are characterised primarily by coaching and discussion work, helping you to understand what is happening, explore your responses and begin to develop new ways of thinking about the situation.

Clients often notice changes even after the first session. You may begin to feel different, more positive or more confident before we reach the RTT stage.

Each session is normally around an hour, although the time given is a guide rather than a strict limit.

4. RTT Hypnotherapy and Your Personal Recording

The next stage is the deeper therapeutic work of the RTT hypnotherapy session.

By this point, we have spent time understanding you and preparing for this work. The session therefore forms part of an individual process rather than being a standalone treatment.

The session normally lasts in the order of two hours.

RTT can be a fascinating and sometimes illuminating experience. It may bring new understanding and clarity to the situation, helping to guide the therapeutic work that follows.

On the same day, I provide you with your personal RTT recording.

The recording is an important part of the process. Repeated listening helps reinforce the new patterns of thought we have worked to establish.

I ask you to listen to your recording at least once a day for the 21 days before your flight, and to continue listening while you are away, particularly before your return flight.

5. Coaching and Integration

The RTT session can produce a great deal of information and insight.

The session gives us the opportunity to reflect on what we learned from the RTT session, bring clarity to what you experienced and felt, and deepen the insights gained.

We can also explore the many fascinating concepts and principles that emerge from the work.

But understanding something is only part of the process.

The important question is:

“What do I actually do with this?”

The purpose of the coaching is therefore to turn the insights gained into practical actions you can use in real life.

6. Your Questions About Flying

Now we turn directly to the aeroplane.

This is your opportunity to ask me anything about flying that concerns you.

There are no silly questions.

I've heard them all.

You can ask about something that happened on a previous flight, something you've read, a noise you have heard, turbulence, take off, landing, weather, the aircraft itself, or anything else that has been troubling you.

And if you don't know what you want to ask, that's fine too.

As an experienced airline captain, I have a very good idea of the things that commonly concern people about flying, and I can explain what is happening, why it happens and what you can expect, in straightforward language.

The aim is not to overwhelm you with technical information.

It is to make the unfamiliar more understandable and relatable, so that you know what to expect when you take your seat on the aircraft and begin your journey.

What This Work Is Really About

That is the point of everything we have done together.

Not simply to help you board a flight.

Not to persuade you that you should enjoy flying.

But to help you reach the point where you feel free to fly.

And freedom from the fear of flying can mean considerably more than getting from one airport to another.

It can mean seeing people you could not otherwise see, keeping promises you have made to yourself and others, reconnecting with family and friends, travelling for work, discovering places, cultures and experiences that were previously beyond your reach, making choices without fear making them for you, and, perhaps most importantly, making your world bigger again.

If Your Flight Is Very Soon

Ideally, I like to have at least three weeks before departure, because this gives us time to work through the full process and allow the changes to develop.

If your flight is sooner, don't assume it is too late. We can adapt the process to the time available, focusing on the most important elements and working intensively towards your immediate needs.

This is a shorter version of the full process, but it can still be a powerful and transformative experience, giving you new understanding, greater confidence and a different way of approaching your flight.

Naturally, having less time means we cannot allow the same opportunity for the changes to develop and become established as we would with the full process. But less time does not mean less care, less attention or less commitment to helping you.

Personal Flight Support

For some clients, the final step is not simply reaching the airport. It is actually getting on the aircraft.

If you feel that you would benefit from having me with you, I can accompany you from your home, through the airport and onto the aircraft, supporting you throughout your journey and, if appropriate, accompanying you on the return flight as well.

For someone who has spent years avoiding flying, having the person who has helped them face their fear sitting beside them when they finally take to the skies can be a powerful final step in the process.

Because this involves personal travel and potentially significant time away from my practice, it is arranged separately from the standard programme and priced according to the journey and circumstances involved. Any necessary travel, accommodation and other expenses would be agreed with you in advance.
